JOIN THE ZOOM CLASS

Over the next few weeks I will be using ZOOM to teach a live online curriculum based on our Xingyiquan / Baguazhang curriculum at the Baltimore Academy of Defence. This program intended to be accessible and useful to martial artists of all styles and all levels, including beginners.

The goal will be to learn to maximize the befits of solo training by providing students of all martial arts with a dynamic strategy that will improve footwork, power generation, and conditioning while requiring minimal time, less than 6sq feet of practice space, and without needing to purchase equipment.

Ready for ZOOM at the Wuguan

Specific strategies include; advanced footwork training using the 4, 8, and 12 direction stepping diagram as well as using it to maximize the benefits of shadowboxing and (optionally) heavy bag work, efficiently employing martial actions as dynamic body-weight super-sets to see real improvements in strength and explosivity while simultaneously drilling effective martial skill, mental training, and more.

JOIN THE ZOOM CLASS

Additionally traditional training methodologies will include; Zhuang Zuang, the Bagua ‘tea serving’ exercises, striking strategies from Xingyiquan and Baguazhang, Taolu, meditation and more.

8 Direction Stepping Diagram made from black gaff tape, 6 x 6 ft. square

We will be using a 6’x6′ 8 Direction Stepping Diagram in our training, if necessary we can simply imagine the diagram, however if the floor has no preexisting lines is preferable to mark the box on the floor with gaff, or painters masking tape, alternatively chalk, or anything else may be used equally well.

Intro to Sun Baguazhang

Sun Lutang shows the Bagua Lion gua

八卦掌

Ba Gua Zhang (Pa Kua Chang) means Eight Trigrams Palm. The trigrams or Gua are ancient symbols used to represent all natural phenomena in the classic Chinese ‘Book of Changes’ or Yi Jing.
Zhang means palm and designates Ba Gua Zhang as a style of martial art, which emphasizes the use of the open hand instead of the closed fist.

Saturday July 13th, 10am – 4pm

This seminar will introduce the Baguazhang of Sun Lutang, a unique internal style of Chinese martial art that emphasizes fighting techniques that use the open hand to strike & grapple while employing footwork to obtain a superior angle, before throwing the opponent, (like in Judo) hard to the ground.

  • 8 Tea Serving Exercises

Chinese Swordsmanship Seminar with Scott Rodell

February 9th, 2019

Laoshi Scott M. Rodell‘s Chinese Swordsmanship seminar will instruct students not in sword forms, but in the martial use of the Chinese straight sword or jian. This seminar will teach a thorough understanding of Chinese swordsmanship fundamentals including the basic cuts as a foundation for the practice of Chinese swordsmanship and includes individual & paired drills, foot work, and free swordplay.

HEMA and American swordsmanship practitioners will find the alternative theories presented on footwork, and “deflect / counter-cut” vs the more familiar “parry / riposte” style of many western sword systems especially interesting.

Liang and the Yang Family Michuan Taijiquan, form, applications, push hands, fan, sword and spear, from Wang Yen-nien.
